HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
 
         
         
   

     June 7, 1964. The campus started as Bontoc Agricultural and Technical School (BATS) by virtue of Republic Act No. 3938.

     July 07, 1967. BATS was renamed to Bontoc National Agricultural and Fishery School or BNAFS.

     June 10, 1983. BNAFS was converted into a full-pledged tertiary institution offering the agricultural and fishery technology courses through Batas Pambansa Bilang 494. A year after, BNAFs was changed as Southern Leyte Agro-Fishery Technical Institute (SLAFTI). It offered a 4-year program leading to a bachelor of Agricultural Technology (BAT) with a 2-year course of Diploma in Agricultural Technology (DAT).

     Nov. 22, 1985. By virtue of Batas Pambansa Bilang 888, SLAFTI was changed to Ruperto K. Kangleon Memorial Agro-Fisheries Technical Institute or RKKMAFTI through DECS Order No. 25, s. 1993 authorized the school to operate the four-year course in Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSE) with Fishery Education as major of field of specialization.

     March 1, 1995. RA 7930 was enacted by the Congress of the Philippines converting the school into a chartered State College and renamed to Southern Leyte State College of Science and Technology (SLSCST).

     October 1999. RKKMAFTI was integrated as Southern Leyte State College of Science and Technology (SLSCST) by virtue of the implementing guidelines of R.A. # 8745 or Cy 1999 and R.A. 8292, otherwise known as the “Higher Education Modernization Act”.

      March 4, 2004. SLSCST-Bontoc became Southern Leyte State University-Bontoc by virtue of R.A. 9261 with four-fold functions: instruction, research, extension and production.
